Our big community event this year was our VE Day commemoration, reminding us of the importance of the ending of war and the coming of peace. We had lots of help from different parts of the community, making it quite special. We had a lot of vintage vehicles, some people dressed in vintage costumes (thanks to Winston Churchill (Basil Abbott)), Keith Kiddie (the mayor of Diss), the Royal British Legion. We had face painting for the children, and vintage fairground rides (thanks to Larry Gray).
Park Radio entertained us, and our own tea and cake stall fed us. The crowd melted away in one strong rainstorm, but gradually built up again when it ended. Alison Bannister hosted a group of older people who shared their memories of VE Day.
Special thanks to our Chair, Andy Rackham, who did a fantastic job of organising the event.
