We had our fingers crossed for the weather on Royal Wedding Fun Day, but we needn’t have worried as the sun shone down on us. One lady said “It was like the Pied Piper or something, everyone was heading down to Fair Green”. It is difficult to estimate, but we think around 6-700 people all spent the afternoon enjoying a lovely party atmosphere.
Families enjoyed Poz’s shows and rides, and Elise the face painter was a popular attraction. The crown-making sold out, and after a procession, all crown wearers took home a flag, a pack of mini-eggs and two lucky winners had colouring books & pencils too. Het the pottery lady had some wonderful plaques to sell, which many children enjoyed painting, glueing and glittering to end up with a souvenir to treasure.
The Tea Team did a sterling job all afternoon, and sold out of cakes. The Barbeque Boys worked solidly from 12 noon, selling the last 5 sausages at about 9p.m!! The raffle & tombola were popular too. Many people stayed out till late, enjoying the beer festival and the band in the pub.
On Monday we held our first car boot sale. Not knowing quite what to expect, we were surprised by a very good turnout again, with 6 rows of cars and plenty of shoppers too. Mike and his Marshalls had a busy time of it keeping all the cars in order! The Barbeque Boys and The Tea Team sprang into action again, and the bacon rolls and cuppas were very popular with the public.
And in between, there were Morris Dancers on Fair Green.
Many thanks to everyone who helped to organise these events. Enjoy the photos.
